Elin Gardell Sundström is a textile artisan whose favorite material is wool. Elin has playfully created works from the “waste” generated in her production process. Letting the material itself guide the creative process is something she is deeply passionate about. In this work, she has set aside all thoughts of function and instead allowed the leftover material to transform into something entirely different. Movement, lightness, and renewal are themes that have accompanied the process, and she hopes this perspective may inspire reflection on what waste really is: When is a material truly considered used up, and how can we make better use of the Earth’s resources before returning them to nature?
Born and raised on the island of Gotland, Elin works under the name Rosa Räven, where she primarily produces wool duvets made from wool that is not fine enough for other textile production. The wool duvet is at the heart of her business.
Elin has long been fascinated by the versatility of wool and is troubled by how much of it goes to waste. She is committed to being part of a positive change for Swedish wool.
She studied textiles at Gotland Folk High School and later completed programs in Sustainability Development in Textiles and Fashion and Circular Design at the Nordic Textile Academy. Elin also teaches wool spinning courses and keeps her own flock of Klövsjö sheep at home.
